Community Design/Build
The revitalization of Belding-Garcia Park was a placemaking project in collaboration with the City of Richmond, Pogo Park, and the residents of the Richmond community. Through the efforts of all of the project partners during a 4-month planning process, we were able to renovate the playspace in one community build day with over 200 volunteers. One feature of the new space is a repurposed arch climber, which served for many years as a well-loved and durable feature of the original playground. Its refurbishment included the welding of structural supports, some fresh paint, and installation of the final sculpture as the new park entry. I served as the project manager and provided visioning for the placemaking elements that the community desired for the new space, as well as direction throughout the project planning phase and on the community build day.
