Design/Build Project in El Tejar, Guatemala
This project was a collaboration with Build Lightly Studio, CEDIN School in El Tejar, Guatemala, and other design professionals as members of a 10-day design/build workshop. The goal of the project was to build a new, acoustically treated and environmentally conscious classroom for the school's music students. We worked with school leadership to develop and refine the design, select local materials, and complete construction. Through a series of breakout design sessions and tutorials from local trades experts, we constructed and tested the classroom, installing lights, power outlets, acoustical panels, ventilation openings, and operable windows and doors. This gallery features photos of the entire design/build process, and the video at the end captures some of the music students testing out the acoustics of the new space.
