Architecture and Urban Design Projects
This project presented an interesting challenge in urban design through the rethinking of an existing transit hub. Redesigning the Alcalá de Henares Renfe station served as my senior thesis in urban design and architecture and allowed me the opportunity to study design in an unfamiliar and unique urban context during my year abroad. The design presents a solution to overcoming a physical and contextual barrier imposed by the existing rail station, which divides the fabric of the city and neglects the opportunity for community connection. The solution permits the railway tracks to be protected and concealed as much as possible, integrates a bus station for increased connectivity, and provides new public open space to the community.
